Culture heritage is the witness of the history of mankind, and it is our responsibility to preservethem completely. However, with the increasing of natural disasters and human activities, cultureheritage are suffering unprecedented destruction.3D reconstruction is technology developed in thelast20years, which could protect and restore the heritage in digital form and would be facilitate forthe protection and repair work. The modeling method of multi source date is the main method of3Dreconstruction these years, which could rapidly, accurately model. This paper make “digitalDunhuang” as the background, use airborne LiDAR, terrestrial laser scanner, HandyScan industrialscanner, control survey,3D reconstruction and texture mapping as the main methods, do the researchon the technique process from data collecting to model reconstruction, which could modeling for thecomplex terrain. This paper study areas are as folowings:(1) Data collecting. According to different summarizing the topography, this paperstudies use which means can achieve3D information of the object quickly andaccurately.(2) Data fusion. The increasing of the data sources will increase the difficulty of thereconstruction model, so, this paper studies how to register and fusion the data ofdifferent of resolution and accuracy.(3)3D reconstruction. As different object of Mogao has different accuracy, the walls ofgrottoes is largely different from the Buddha, this paper studies two methods ofmodeling objects.(4) Texture mapping. The Mogao grottoes has a great number of fine mural, because ofthe errors of images and models, there will be some errors when mapping the textureto the models. This paper use the non-rigid transform method,which could has amuch higher mapping accuracy.(5) Workflow. This paper starts from the actual work, combined with latest technologicalachievements in related areas, ideas, methods, and summarizes the technicalstandards of the reconstruction of three-dimensional model of a grotto artifacts.
