The Mogao Grottoes is famous for its brilliant art,profound connotation and its mysterious culture. Every year, a large number of tourists come to its fame. The swift growth of tourists bring great challenges to conservation and management of Mogao Grottoes cultural heritage, the conflict is sharpen between Dunhuang cultureā€˜s protection and management and its promotion. With the rapid development of computer technology and the maturity of virtual reality technology, it provides a idea to protect and promote the Dunhuang culture. This goal of this research is to create Mogao Grottoes virtual scene and to realize immersive interactive roaming and somatosensory interaction. Based on the analysis of Mogao Grottoes scene and 3D modeling technology, this paper puts forward a new idea that combining the geometric modeling method and image modeling method to create 3d model of Mogao Grottoes, and give a detailed presentation about modeling process and UV unfolding. Considering that the Maya 3D modeling software has problems in three-dimensional modeling for mountain and the external environment and the Unity engine is inconvenience in three-dimensional modeling, it is proposed to combine the Maya 3D modeling software and the Unity engine to create model, and introduced how to add the sky box, the mountain and the collider, how to achieve double-sided display maps; In order to solve the traditional human-computer interaction problems which the interactive process relies on the mouse and keyboard, the paper studies the interaction method of using the human skeleton points and gestures to control the interaction; Finally, in order to strengthen the immersive in feeling, Oculus Rift HMD is used to instead of flat panel displays in this paper, roaming perspective and human perspective(Oculus Rift displayer) keeping pace. The research is not only able to meet to meet the demand of tourists for Mogao Grottoes art, but also can realize the protection and preservation of Mogao Grottoes ancient site, and provide experience for reference for other sites heritage protection work, and make the tourists can enjoy the beauty of the world at home.
