Detectors are kind of device which are widely used in power measurement of microwave pulse-modulated signals. Many microwave detector products have been manufactured for commercial use. Some researches on design and characteristics of detectors have been made.HPM (High-Power Microwave) technologies are developing fast in some fields such as military. In order to make precise power measurement of HPM pulse-modulated signals of which the width are often narrower than 100 ns,detectors need to have some features like wide sensitivity dynamic range,short response time and little waveform distortion.Therefore,research on detector design becomes one significant task in microwave measurement technology.In this paper, design method, simulation, optimization, measurement results of one kind of microstrip detector are presented after introduction of the fundamentals.Firstly, basic concepts, characteristics, research progress of HPM pulse-modulated signal and microwave detectors are introduced briefly.Secondly, the design theories of wideband bandpass and wide stopband lowpass filters are demonstrated. Wideband bandpass filter using stub-loaded multiple-mode resonator and wideband bandstop filter are designed and simulated based on theoretical analysis. Their measurement results are also illustrated.In the end, high-speed and wide-dynamic-range detectors are designed and manufactured. Suggestion of future work is made based on the analysis of tested results.The test results indicate that: the pass band of bandpass filter ranges from 5.6 to 13.8 GHz, and its insertion loss is about 1 dB from 9 to 10 GHz; 3GHz lowpass filter, its insertion is about 0.5 dB at passband and more than 12 dB at stopband, more than 25 dB from 9 to 10 GHz;the microstrip detectors are able to demodulate pulse-modulated signals of 6~12 GHz,-10~16dBm, and its response time is less than 3~4 ns.The performance of the microstrip detectors satisfies the requirement of HPM measurement to some extent.
