With large-scale application and development of technology of the laser, the laser needs of various industries also showed the trend of increasingly more diverse. One of the high-power narrow linewidth laser needs more and more obvious, such as in fiber sensing, optical detection, spectroscopy, military defense, pipeline monitoring, laser radar, and other areas need a lot of high-power narrow linewidth source. At the same time ,1550nm band communication window as well as in the best eye-safe wavelength range, so the narrow linewidth high power 1550nm light source has become a hot research and application.This paper describes the theory and the width of the line width measurement method and principle, and based on zero-difference method / design of a heterodyne linewidth measurement device. From nonlinear effects, linewidth, noise and other aspects of the introduction of a high power amplifier for amplification of narrow linewidth laser. Which proves the high power amplifier through the light source of narrow linewidth seed obtained to meet the requirements of high-power narrow-linewidth light source is feasible.In the eye-safe laser radar based on the needs, designed a high power amplifier protection, and narrow linewidth semiconductor laser as light source to amplify the seed to get the output wavelength of 1550nm, the maximum output power of 33 dB, polarization extinction ratio at 35dB, the output line width of 13kHz high-power narrow linewidth laser, to meet the eye-safe laser radar applications.
