Supplementary tuition appeared in inland of china during the latter of 1980s and the beginning of 1990s. In the next twenty years, with the development of economy, society strengthening the input to education and parents paying more attention on their children’s training, supplementary tuition had popularized. However, one point should be clarified, which supplementary tuition functions as a supplement for formal education. Because of the increasing concerns for supplementary tuition, much more studies have been implemented widely. Still some drawbacks remained, some of which only analyzed the elements influenced supplementary tuition, some of which considered supplementary tuition’s affect on educational system and economy, few of which exerted enough studies on student’s development. This thesis tries to research supplementary tuition, from the point of the relation between supplementary tuition and student’s development.This article is divided into four parts.The first part is the summarization of supplementary tuition. Starting with defining supplementary tuition, this part clarifies the definition of it among various scholars’ researches. On the basis of it, its qualities, categories and the differences with formal organization are discussed thoroughly.The second part is the survey of supplementary tuition. The conditions of supplementary tuition in citizen compulsory education will be reached after investigate the condition of students in primary school and junior high school in Wuhan. This part analyzes the conditions from five aspects:the proportion of students choosing supplementary tuition; the time of students studying in there; the main supplementary subjects; the expense of it and the effect of it.The third part is the analysis of influence supplementary tuition taking to student’s development. Firstly, this part talks about the definition and characteristics of student’s development. Secondly, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of supplementary tuition. Lastly, it reveals the value of supplementary tuition from the angle of educational value system. Considering the students’development, the author proposes that we should restrain the disadvantages of supplementary tuition on students and properly arrange the tuition to promote the development of students.The fourth part is organizing supplementary tuition scientifically to better promote students’development. This part analyzes the problems of parents and supplementary tuition itself from the angle of existing problems, and finds out the origins of these problems. Then, the causes will be positioned on three areas, which is incorrect educational ideas of parents, incomprehensive supervision of government and unequal qualities of supplementary tuition. At last, considering the causes above, the author propose some suggestions respectively for parents, students, school, teachers and government.
