With the development of the society, a new round of curriculum reform has beennationwide implemented and promoted, the domestic emphasis on English teachingcontinuously improve, and the research of English teaching materials has become the focus ofattention problems. According to the principles of teaching materials diversity and oneGuide-Multiple teaching materials which have been advocated by the Ministry of Educationpromulgated the "Basic Education Curriculum Reform Program (Trial)" and "full-timecompulsory education English curriculum standards", at all levels the junior middle schoolEnglish textbooks flourish, and it is a is ring trend of the research of teaching materials.English textbooks, which have been issued by the People’s Education Press, occupy animportant position in the various versions of textbooks. As the set of junior middle schoolEnglish textbooks “Go for it” has come into use throughout the country, there are quite a fewresearchers select this set of textbooks for the study. Nowadays, most domestic Englishtextbook research of “Go for it” are analysis and evaluation of the use situation, orcomparative analysis with other versions of textbooks. But there is lack of the research aboutits textbook theory and writing system, and rare further study on the textbooks from theperspective of curriculum objectives. Textbooks are complied according to the curriculumobjectives, and the objectives are realized through the implementation of the textbooks. Sothis paper is about the analysis and study “Go for it” from the angle of the representation ofcurriculum objectives. The aim is to explore the effective representation of these characters inthis set of textbooks by investigation and analysis.This paper wants to know the current research dynamic on the middle school Englishtextbooks through literature review. And by text analysis of “Go for it”, further understandingof its internal structure, the compilation concepts and analysis of the representation from theimplement and enforcement of the curriculum objectives. Then being based on the literaturereview and investigation, this study analysis the effectiveness of the representation ofcurriculum in this set of textbooks. This paper aims to provide the textbook editors with somereference suggestions to improve and modify this set of textbooks; and help front-lineteachers to learn more about this set of textbooks, more efficient mining and utilization of theresource materials for teachers to implement effective teaching of constructive advice; at the same time, also support clear recommendations for students how to effectively understandand use this textbook. The thesis consists of six parts: first comes the preface which mainlyintroduces the background, purpose content and methods of this research. The second part isliterature review from the research about junior middle school English textbook and theresearch about curriculum objectives. The third part is about the analysis of the curriculumrepresentation of junior middle school English textbooks, which mainly introduces thestructure and significance of the junior middle school English curriculum, and explicates itsmanifest and hidden representation. The forth part is a text analysis of the English textbook“Go for it” from the curriculum objectives, which concerns its five dimensions that are thelanguage skills, language knowledge, emotional attitude, learning strategies and culturalawareness. The fifth part is the investigation and analysis about the effectiveness of thetextbooks’ curriculum objectives. It mainly introduces the investigation objects, content andmethod, and statistics and analysis the data collected from the teachers’ and students’questionnaires. Finally is about the conclusions and recommendations, and make an outlookfor further research.This paper has found, though text analysis and investigation, that, the effectiveness ofcurriculum objectives’ representation should be strengthened; the textbook system should beperfected; teachers’ view of teaching textbooks needs to be further improved; and studentsshould have a voice on the use of textbooks. Based on these conclusions, this study puts somespecific suggestions on how to modify this set of textbooks to make it better reflects therequirements of curriculum objectives; it should be changed that teachers traditionaltextbook’s view and teaching behavior; teachers should master the professional ability oftextbook redevelopment and integration; and students how to use the textbook rationally.This research analyses “Go for it” from the angle of the representation of curriculumobjectives, through the combination of static text analysis and dynamic questionnaire, andexplores the effectiveness situation of the representation of curriculum in this set of textbooks.It not only puts some suggestions for editors and teachers; but also concerns the main role ofthe students in use of textbook. These are the thesis’ perspective and value of research.
