By means of reading literature, questionnaires, expert interviews, mathematical statistics,comparative analysis and logic generalization, this paper investigates and analyses undergraduatefootball course teaching present situation of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions. It analyses status,developing trend, successful experience and existing problems of Jiangsu undergraduate physicaleducation in terms of students’ understanding, teaching contents and teaching evaluation. Accordingto the teaching reform practice, it also puts forward some suggestions.The result shows:1、For the essential football course of PE major in Jiangsu Higher EducationInstitutions, teaching content of the course syllabus is consistent with the courseobjectives. It is in line with the national training goal to take cultivating innovativecompound talents in PE as the guiding ideology.2、In this course, teaching method, football game creation, the rules and thejudgments demand higher ability of understanding, analyzing and solving problems. Intechnical teaching, antagonistic technique and contents with complex structure is moredifficult. Teachers should strengthen the cultivation of the students’ ability to analyzeand solve problems, and vigorously promotes the various body parts in controlling theball.3、PE teachers in Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions are in agreement in thefootball course reform. Teaching content should be simplified to entertainment, fun,fitness and practicability.4、The ratio of theory and technology class is1:3.96, theory classes is insufficient.5、 Teaching methods are diversified, such as explanation, demonstration(decomposition), cooperative learning, match, team teaching, and game. These methods are used more frequently.Sports facilities construction in colledge is relatively good.However, indoor soccer field and facilities is absent.6、The ideal assessment method is integrating skill assessment, evaluationstandard, process evaluation and summative evaluation. They are conducive to evaluatethe students’ learning effect comprehensively, objectively and accurately.7、At present, the college football course teachers in theoretical study and practicalexperience have certain advantages, teachers’ teaching ability and basic quality overallis better.
