| Grand parenting means as children’s caregivers and educators, the main person in charge ofthe family education is grandparents by who shoulder the task of raising grandchildren.Children’s social competence refers to the children’s behavior and quality in social interaction. Asa norm in the modern family education, grandparents are largely filled the gap of familyeducation and aroused more and more attention of researchers. Social competence is animportant aspect of children’s social, will not only affect children’s interpersonal, psychologicalhealth, etc., but also to a great extent, predict the future social development. Therefore, exploringgrand parenting styles and children’s social, especially the relationship between grandparentsparenting and social ability is of great theoretical value and practical significance. Throughoutmost of the existing research at home and abroad, which can be found about the relation of grandparenting and child development research is practical experience summarization, empiricalresearch is relatively scarce. At the same time, the existing empirical studies also focus on thecharacteristics, the transition of the role of grand parenting and the advantages and disadvantagesof grand parenting are relatively scarce.The Ecology of Human Development and the theory of family system provide a theoreticalperspective for us to explore the impact of grand parenting on children. Through a questionnairesurvey of127children and their grandparents, we examine the characteristic of grand parentingand the relationship between grand parenting and children’s social competence. On the basis ofconclusion, puts forward suggestions for education to complete and perfect the theory frameworkabout grand parenting. Through analyzing and processing data, this research mainly draws thefollowing conclusions:1. Grand parenting style does not exist significant differences in sex, age, culture level andmonthly income.2. There are significant differences in the aspects of gender and age of the development ofchildren’s social competence. The social development of Daban is generally better than the other two grades. For all the grades, girl’s social competence development level is generally better thanboys.3. Grand parenting style is significantly positively related with children’s social competence,especially on the leadership orientation, the ability of coexistence with others, action orientationand emotional openness. Also there is significant positive correlation between the raisingdimensions of grand parenting and children’s leadership orientation and the ability of coexistencewith others. Regression analysis shows that the dimension of parenting can positively predictchildren’s social competence development. |
