The Relationship Between Father’s Involvement And Young Children’s Social Competence:The Chain Mediating Effect Of Maternal Parenting Stress And Maternal Parenting Self-efficacy

Social competence is an important part of young children’s psychological development.There are relatively few problem behaviors of young children with good social competence and strong social adaptability.Existing studies have proved that the relationship between husband-wife and parent-child relationship formed by family members are all important factors affecting young children’s social competence.However,in previous studies,scholars have paid more attention to the single function of a certain factor,and made less research on the interaction among multiple factors.According to the Family System Theory,there are interactive relationships between the family systems,The appearance of father’s participation will affect the attitude and behavior of each member in the husband-wife system and the parent-child system,and then play a role in young children’s social competence.Therefore,based on the relationship between father’s involvement and young children’s social competence in the parent-child system,and introduces the two variables of maternal parenting stress and maternal parenting self-efficacy in the husband-wife system,to deeply reveal the mechanism of the occurrence and development of young children’s social competence.Taking 649 young children from two public kindergartens in Jinan and Binzhou as the research objects,parents reported separately,Selecting the social competence subscale of the Revised Short Form for Rating Social Competence and Behavior of Young Children revised by Liu Yu and Song Yuan,the Father Involvement Questionnaire revised by Wu Xinchun et al,the Short Form of the Parenting Stress Questionnaire by Abidin,and the maternal parenting self-efficacy subscale of Parenting Sense of Competence Scale revised by Peng Yongmei et al,to evaluate young children’s social competence,father’s involvement,maternal parenting stress and maternal parenting self-efficacy,The results are as follows:(1)There are significant differences in young children’s social competence in gender and grade,but there is no significant difference in whether they are only children.Specifically,The social competence of girls is significantly higher than that of boys,and that of children in large and middle classes is significantly higher than that of children in small classes.Furthermore,There is a significant positively correlation between young children’s social competence and family socioeconomic status,that is,the higher family socioeconomic status,the stronger young children’s social competence.(2)There are significant differences among the dimensions of father’s involvement,The dimension of accessibility and responsibility is significantly higher than the interaction dimension,and the accessibility dimension is significantly higher than the responsibility dimension;There is no significant difference in children’s gender,grade and whether they are only children,but there is a significant positively correlation between father’s involvement and family socioeconomic status.That is,the higher the family socioeconomic status,the more likely the father will involvement.(3)Father’s involvement can significantly positively predict young children’s social competence,and the direct effect remains even after the addition of mediating variables.(4)Father’s involvement can indirectly affect young children’s social competence through maternal parenting stress,That is,maternal parenting stress plays a partial mediating role between fathers’ involvement and young children’s social competence;Father’s involvement can indirectly affect young children’s social competence through maternal parenting self-efficacy,That is,maternal parenting self-efficacy plays a partial mediating role between fathers’ involvement and young children’s social competence.(5)Father’s involvement can indirectly affect the development of young children’s social competence through the maternal parenting stress and the maternal parenting self-efficacy,That is,maternal parenting stress and maternal parenting self-efficacy play a partial chain mediating role between father’s involvement and young children’s social competence,The chain mediating model is established.
