This essay use the methods of Field Investigation and Case Analysis to study thedevelopment status of Chinese education in the city of Rotorua, New Zealand. Also,through the analysis of the features of New Zealand primary school education systemand its students, the essay find the position of Chinese class in the primary school ofRotorua. Based on the the position, the essay design a overall teaching plan forChinese.Through teaching practice and observation in Rotorua for10month, I summarizethe challenges that Chinese education in primary school faced: No total planning,insufficient classes and repeat teaching; lack of professional Chinese teachers andsuitable Chinese textbooks; Most teachers haven’t master the effective secondlanguage teaching methods.The second part of this essay analyzes the features of primary school students fromthe aspects of phycological characteristics、learning habits and culture backgrounds.Then the essay find the position of Chinese learning in primary schools, that is:Chinese is one of the main foreign languages; Preparation for future Chinese learning;Chinese learning in primary school is an important phrase for pronounce and languagesense. Based on this, the essay set the goals for language skills and communicationskills.The third part is the overall teaching plan: Teaching contents、 Teachingprinciples、class design and teacher’s role. The last part take the Chinese classes ofRm6in Kaitao Intermediate School as a case. Base on the analysis of the case, theessay give suggestions for the practical application of this teaching design.
