Good learning habits constitute a significant part of human qualities.Once developed, they are not only able to improve students’ schoolperformance but will have far-reaching effects on their further education aswell as work and living. Lower grades at the elementary school are a periodcritical for developing good learning habits, because it is easy for studentsto develop and maintain such habits in this period. Training students at theright time will let them double their efficiency of learning. There are more and more migrant workers in Dalian Development Area(DDA) thanks to the rapidly growing economy. Their children haveaccounted for a significant part of students at schools in DDA. Thesestudents have different learning habits and most of them have no good ones. They see poor school performance despite the fact that they spend muchtime on learning. To help them improve their school performance andprovide their parents and other teachers with solutions to relevant problems,I spent one year in gathering data and information through observationduring teaching, talks with my colleagues, students and parents. In addition,I conducted a questionnaire survey on the habits in six aspects includingpreparing for classes, listening during classes, going over what was learned, doing homework, reading and managing learning resources among first andsecond graders at two local elementary schools, before making comparison between children of migrant workers and natives. I studied reasons for theirdifferences from the perspectives of families, schools and studentsthemselves. I have developed methods for helping children of migrantworkers form good learning habits after reading a lot of literature. Ifproperly used, those methods will bring remarkable improvements to theirlearning habits.
