Hebei Province started to implement the new curriculum reform in2009. One of thelargest high school math changes takes place in statistics. So what changes does it have in itscontent? In the new curriculum background, what is the current situation of high schoolstatistics teaching? After finishing their studies, to what extent should students acquirecompulsory statistical content? What statistical literacy do high school students have? Howshould teachers improve teaching methods accordingly? With statistics being valued so much,a lot of front-line teachers feel very confused, not knowing how to do a good job in teachingstatistics. With these questions, using mainly documentary and survey, this article has maderesearch on the statistics teaching of a county high school in Hebei Province, taking thefirst-line math teachers and224students as objects for the study. Combined with theconclusions of this study, this article proposes eight teaching suggestions with the intention ofimproving statistical teaching.The main conclusions of this article:1,A breakthrough in the traditional curriculum content system, the statistical content ofspiral focused on integration with IT;2,Front-line teachers’ inadequate understanding of the importance of the statisticalcontent;3, The students’ mastery of the basic knowledge of statistics is better, but they are bad atusing it;4, Students lack basic understanding of the process of statistical activities;5, Students need to improve the critical thinking of statistical inference.This article consists of four components:The first part brings up of the research questions and analyses frame of the paper in thebackground of the new curriculum reform, combined with the present situation of statisticsteaching in my work unit;The second part does analytical research and summarizes the changes in characteristicsby comparing the changes in statistical content of teaching materials of Hebei Province;The third part does case studies and interview surveys on the school’s statistics teaching situation; Then,does Questionnaire test survey on the statistical literacy of Senior Twostudents who have finished compulsory statistical content and analyses their statistical literacyscore;The fourth part summarizes the above research and came up with related suggestions.
