The model of teaching guided by learning plan, with the help of learning plan andteachers’ guiding, aims to improve students’ ability of autonomous learning. However,the research on this new model still has such a problem as lack of empirical studies.Through conducting an experiment, the thesis tries to solve the following problems.Compared with traditional model of teaching, is the model of teaching guided bylearning plan more effective to improve students’ English achievement? Is the modelguided by learning plan more effective to foster learner autonomy? Is the model guidedby learning plan more effective to improve teacher autonomy?The thesis consists of six parts, namely, introduction, literature review, theoreticalbases of the model of teaching guided by learning plan, methodology, results anddiscussion, as well as conclusion and implication. Introduction part presents thebackground and values of conducting the experiment. In the part of literature review, theauthor summarizes the historical development of English teaching in China and reviewsthe definition and components of teaching model and popular model of English teachinghome and abroad. On the basis of previous review, in the third chapter, the author laysemphasis on the concept of learning plan, the model of teaching guided by learning plan,and stating the theoretical basis of this new model. In Methodology, the words center onresearch questions, subjects, data collection, data analysis and method. In the last buttwo parts, the author presents the results and conducts a discussion. Implications,limitations and suggestions are presented in the last part.The experiment was carried out in a senior high middle school. From March toJuly,2011, the experiment lasted for a term. The subjects are65students who comefrom two classes in Grade two. One of the classes is experimental group which employsthe model of teaching guided by learning plan, and the other of them still adoptstraditional model of English teaching. Before the experiment, the students in the twoclasses are similar in the aspects of English achievement and learner autonomy. With thehelp of two tests, questionnaires and interviews, the author finishes t-tests of SPSS. The results of the thesis show that the model of teaching guided by learning plan is moreeffective to improve English achievement, learner autonomy and teacher autonomy.Through the experiment of implementing the model of teaching guided by learning plan,the thesis helps to enrich the empirical study of learning plan and widen the approachesto improving learner autonomy. In addition, it has implications on the future teachingactivities.
