Faculty performance assessment is an important part of Personnel System ofcolleges and universities. Performance assessment of University faculties can giveguidance, supervision, diagnosis, encourage and development to the universities,faculties and students. It’s one of the most important measures to improve the facultywork level and education quality. Now most universities have carried out theassessment system, but from a look on the whole, due to the lack of systematic thinking,and teacher performance assessment system’s complexity, the existing index system isnot perfect, and, still has many disadvantages.. So how to establish a set of scientificand reasonable performance evaluation index system of university faculties is a boththeoretical and practical significance.Our university is usually divided into4types: research, research and teaching,teaching and research, teaching. According to the different types of University, theteachers’ performance assessment index system should be different. This paperresearches about the theory of performance evaluation at home and abroad, and thenstudies the concept, principle, content, function. Based on the extensive collection ofliteratures, the existing problems were found in the performance assessment is mainlyconcentrated in the assessment system, the performance index, and the assessmentprocess. Finally, based on characteristics of research and teaching university, the authorexplores and establishes a set of university teacher performance evaluation indexsystem.
