As the industrial revolution and capitalist economy have developed, the westernsociety entered the consumer society. The attendant is the prevalence of consumerism inideological field. With the development of economic globalization, consumerism isspreading throughout the world. And with reform and opening-up policy and socialistmarket economy structure established, consumerism already began to attack the traditionalconsumption conception of our country. To make matters worse, varying degrees ofconsumption alienation begin to appear in our country. Therefore, criticizing consumerismand strengthening the undergraduates’ education for consumption conception are not onlygood for the sound development of our economy and sociality, but also beneficial to theall-round development of undergraduates.By using the documentation method, synthesis analytic method and the method ofcombining theory with practice, this paper firstly explains the reasons and characteristicsof consumerism, and focuses on the consequences of consumerism from four angles:economy, ecology, society and spirit, and further discusses the critique of consumerism; Inthe meantime, it divides consumption conception according to the consumption contentand the resource consumption level. And then, it reveals the characteristics of consumptionconception, such as social and inheritance. Based on this, it summarizes the connotationand goal of education for consumption conception, analyses the importance of educationfor consumption conception to our undergraduates; Secondly, it elaborates on theconsumption alienation of undergraduates which mainly includes unbalanced consumptionstructure, conspicuous consumption, blind consumption, over-extended consumption, andinterpersonal consumption. What’s more, it tells about the major causes and theconsequences of undergraduates’ consumption alienation from four aspects: society,university, family and undergraduates. Finally, based on the existing conditions ofundergraduates’ consumption alienation, the last section points out there are four aspectsincluded in undergraduates’ education for consumption conception: the education formoderate consumption concept, harmonious consumption concept, sustainable consumption concept and consumption capacity. And, more importantly, it further statesthat the best method to strengthen the undergraduates’ education for consumptionconception is to unite schooling, family education, social education and self–education ofundergraduates.
