Study On The Endowment Issue For The Left-behind Elderly In Rural Areas

There’re more than40million left-behind elderly in China’s rural area. The migration of their children widened the space distance, which led to the absence of their role in the endowment system. Thus, it is very important for us to survey their endowment situation and explore countermeasures to solve their endowment problems, The meaning of this study is not only about the the health and welfare of the elderly, but also relates to the success of China’s ability to deal with the issue of aging and the construction of the new rural, which in turn, relates to the building of harmonious society.In this paper, A village, which located in ShiShou, HuBei Province, is selected to do the empirical research. By investigating the economic support, living care, spirit consolation and mutual assistance mechanism of the left-behind elderly, we found problems in their endowment condition, including shortage of economic support, lack of living care, absence of spirit consolation and unsound social mutual assistance mechanism. While, The article also analyzed the impact of rural left-behind elderly pension status satisfaction factors from the micro and macro perspective. The micro factors involves five aspects:age, marital status, education level, occupation and grandchildren custody condition. The macro factors includes four aspects:the weaken of family support and land endowment in rural area, the receive of basic pension in new rural endowment insurance and the mutual assistance mechanism. At last, this study proposes strategy from the individual level, family level and social level to deal with the endowment problems of left-behind elderly in rural area.
