In recent years, with the Beijing Olympic Games and other large of the sportsevents were held successfully and the image of the city of promotion, we can see thenew hope in the domestic publicity and promotion in sports event. Some people saysports event is like a magic wand, it point to the city which will change to a new one.The publicity and promotion in sports event is the strong force to make this change. Sohow to publicity sports event better, strengthen the public participation, publicity thebrand of sports event and the image of city become the problem for the practitioner tosolve. This paper attachment the main theory of sports publicity and event promotion,combined with the publicity and promotion strategy in Chengdu modern pentathlonword championships, use the research method of document literature, theoreticalanalysis, expert interview and text analysis synthetically to research and discussesChengdu modern pentathlon world championships, in order to provide some theoreticalreference and practice experience for the publicity and promotion in large-scale sportsevent.Currently, the publicity and promotion strategy in large-scale sports event roughlydivided into seven parts: publicity background, publicity target, publicity objectives,publicity concept, publicity strategy, publicity characteristics and publicity effectevaluation. These elements connected together make up the overall framework of thepublicity and promotion in the large-scale sports event. the organizing committee ofChengdu modern pentathlon world championships combined the developing status ofthe modern pentathlon at home and established in the target of Chengdu`s city imagewhich is the international modern fields and gardens city, and then established the eventpublicity objectives, it is increase the Chengdu residents`attention, publicity theChengdu`s image of international modern garden city, strive for more sponsors of theevent. Make sure the five kinds of event publicity and promotion audiences, there areChengdu residents, domestic and foreign media, UIPM, the sponsors, tourists andinternational audiences. Formulated the event publicity concept is focus on modernpentathlon and meet at fields and gardens Chengdu, the event publicity strategy areseven aspects: the field atmosphere inside and outside, theme activity promotion, mediapublicity and service, volunteer service, the city image communication, publicity andreport events, emergency. It formed the unique characteristics of event publicity whichare the continuance of publicity process, the audience segmentation of publicityobjectives, the diversity of publicity method, the richness of publicity platform and the visibility of publicity effect.For the publicity effect study of Chengdu modernpentathlon world championships, this paper proceed a comprehensive objective analysisfrom the highly valuation of international modern pentathlon and the problem in thepublicity and promotion in Chengdu modern pentathlon world championships toanalysis at both the positive and negative aspects, meanwhile, combined with theestimation of organizing committee by themselves. Finally, obtained the revelation ofthe publicity and promotion in large-scale sports event, it is try to choose the certainmass-based sports event, formulate well-defined efficient publicity and promotion plan,mobilize the positivism of the matching with event, national, international media,events publicity and city image spread combination.
