In recent years, task-based language teaching (TBLT) study is of much concern in the field of English teaching in primary and secondary schools. However, among the great number of studies, TBLT practical research in oral English teaching is inadequate in vocational school. Therefore, the author attempted to implement the TBLT in vocational oral English teaching in this paper.TBLT method has attracted increasing attention since1980s, which emphasizes learning by doing. This method requires learners to use the language for the purpose of communication. Based on the results of the researches conducted by experts and scholars, the author made an attempt to use the TBLT method in vocational oral English teaching, connected with characteristic of vocational students and teaching materials.Having read lots of books on TBLT and vocational oral English teaching, the author selected two classes, totally72students in Tianjin Construction and Engineering Vocational School as subjects took part in the study. Class0909had36students and was treated as the experimental class; Class0910had36students and was treated as the control class. During the study, the same English teacher taught the two classes with the same number of teaching periods each week. The experiment lasts for nearly four months. The instruments used in the research include tests, questionnaires and interview. In this experiment, the author mainly referred to Willis’ model in order to form TBLT model in oral English training at vocational schools. The data is processed and analyzed by SPSS13.0. The detailed analysis of the data yielded the following findings:1. TBLT can arouse students’interest and self-confidence in oral English.2. TBLT is effective and suitable for vocational school students. According to the above findings, the study proves the feasibility of TBLT in oral English teaching for students in vocational school. It also gives implications, limitations of the study and suggestions for further study. Due to the small sample size, the results yielded from this study will only serve as hypotheses to be tested in the future.
