Nowadays, as we’re in the information age and knowledge era, the developmentof science and technology is more important than that of any times. Science educationis the key means to promote economy and enhance people’s scientificaccomplishments, but the development of science education is mostly subject to thatof science teacher education. Since the20thcentury, overseas science teachereducation has been fully promoting, however, Chinese science teacher education, inimmature period, is relatively delayed compared to that of the west countries. Itdoesn’t adapt to our situation to only introduce overseas education theory. It’s with therealistic means for the development of Chinese science teacher education that weshould comprehensively study overseas theory and concern on development ofoverseas teacher education.Professional journal is the important way to reflect the latest study results onsome fields. The study is based on Journal of science teacher education which enjoyedhigh respect in teacher science education. With the study means on Bibliometrics, Itevaluates external characteristics and content characteristics of478studies,86periods,20volumes, issued in20years, from1991to2010. The development of internationalteacher science education will be summarized by analyzing the main part and studymeans as well as qualitatively understanding content characteristics.Analyzing on statistics on content characteristics, the writer founds that:(1)The information volume of Journal of science teacher education is increasing.(2)As it’s studied by higher education institutions in different areas, although theUnited States was the main study group, yet during the past20years, more andmore countries begin to cover this fields, which inflects international concern onscience teacher education study.Referred to the classification standard of the formers, the essay buildsclassification tables in the study of content characteristics and classifies its containedtexts. The writer founds that:(1)The original boundaries are broken in science teacher education fields, so the professional study on it is the hot and key point.(2)Study on vocational education and in-service education should be emphasized.Policy study on science teacher education is being increased.(3)Different means on its study is being increased. Qualitative study is the mainmeans, while Quantitative study is being improved. Theory study should becombined with practice, and case study will become the main trends.At last, based on the above study, some points are issued for our Chinese scienceteacher education study:(1)Strengthening study on science teacher education policies;(2)Attaching importance to profession study on science teacher;(3)Combining pre-service with in-service;(4)Concerning practical effects on science teacher education.
