Contemporary tennis enjoys a good reputation as ‘The World’s Second Largest BallGames. Tennis is also known as one of the world’s three noblest sports and four most gentlemanlysports. Since tennis has become an international hit, it has been developing rapidly in China. Thisnew century has seen Chinese players impressing the whole world with frequent victories, not tomention the tennis fad throughout China after Li Na’s stunning performance in2011. However, theso called ‘High Threshold’ has influenced the development of tennis in China.Due to the fact above, the study is based on the P.E. elective course in the normalcolleges. This study is aimed at finding the existing problems, superiorities and putting forwardcorresponding countermeasures by analyzing tennis courses in seven normal colleges in Henanprovince. Meanwhile, its outcomes are hopefully to become the breakthrough to improve thequality of tennis teaching, promote the sport of tennis, spread its culture and breaking into thetennis market in Henan.This thesis conducts a survey about seven normal colleges in Henan Province by usingliterature method, survey, mathematical statistics, logical analysis, etc. The analysis includes thebasic information about the students who choose the tennis as an elective course, the teacherresource allocation, the condition of the tennis courts and equipments, the progress of affairs andcompetitions in the Tennis Association. This concluded that college students are keen on tennis,but lack the approaches to acquire tennis knowledge, also unmotivated, the high proportion offemale student, the low grasp of tactics and rules. The courts in seven normal colleges are way too much inferior to the Education Department’s provision; the quantity of rackets can’t meet demand,the lack of tennis walls; the teachers of tennis course are mostly non-professional majors, and theyhave low teacher titles. Teaching objectives of tennis course are kind of incorrect, teaching methodis partial to conventional. The function and character that tennis associations play in these schoolsare undefined, the management and business model are immature. Besides, there are not manytennis competitions in these schools, at the same time, students have low participation in tenniscourse.To solve those problems above, this article proposes some correspondingcountermeasures and suggestions from the following aspects. First and foremost, the collegeexecutive level and the authorities should enhance the degree of attention, improve the collegetennis cultural accumulation from multiple angles. Additionally, they are supposed to spare moreefforts to develop the college tennis elective courses and optimize the curriculum, to improve thequality of teaching. Moreover, speeding up the construction of the college tennis and relatedfacilities is also critical to develop the increasingly number of tennis coach teams. As well as this,we also like to see the strengthening the responsibilities and functions of the College TennisAssociation. As a final point, the more the extra-curricular tennis activities, the more improvementon the construction of college tennis professional teams.
