Purpose The research is to comprehensively understand the quality of life of the rural elderly and its influencing factors, and to find the weak link of the rural health work. The research will provide the government and health departments with evidence and clues to respond to the challenges posed by an aging population and to achieve "healthy aging" and "positive aging".Method Stratified random sampling method is used according to the level of economic development.601rural old people (65years old or over) were surveyed by a questionnaire one-on-one.The questionnaire is based on the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment BREF Chinese version (WHOQOL-BREF), including the general demographic questionnaire, the disease spectrum of rural elderly, the medical treatment status and health needs of rural elderly, rural elderly people living behavior and quality of life of rural elderly.Results1. The chronic diseases prevalence of rural elderly people is72.35%. The prevalence of hypertension is in the first place (26.26%), followed by arthritis (20.17%), and gastric ulcer (14.26%);2.31.30%of the rural elderly do not have any medical insurance. The elderly who participate in the health insurance account for9.22%, and54.56%of them participate in the cooperative medical care;87.82%of the elderly know nothing or very little about the health care knowledge;42.26%of the rural elderly hope to know health knowledge, while54.96%are indifferent about this;3.44.87%of the rural elderly do not pay attention to the daily diet at all;87.83%of the elderly do not have any or very little opportunity to participate in recreational activities;4. The scores of the rural elderly on physiology, psychology, social relations and the environment are lower than the general population in China. This is verified by t-test and has statistical significance (t physiology=9.33, t psychology=11.67, t social relationship=16.41,t environment=6.16); The multi-factor Logistic regression analysis results show that chronic diseases (OR=2.358), family harmony degree (OR=.459), average annual family income (OR=0.526), medical insurance (OR=0.540), non-stay status (OR=0.341) are the main factors affecting the quality of life of the elderly.Conclusion The quality of life of rural elderly tends to be low, suggesting that strengthening the rural health system reform, improving rural residents medical insurance system and health care system, preventing and reducing the incidence of chronic diseases are the important guarantees of the quality of life of rural elderly; creating harmony family atmosphere and caring about the staying elderly are the effective ways to improve the quality of life of rural elderly; improving the economic situation in rural areas is the important material foundation for improving the quality of life of rural elderly; in consideration of the rural status as well as the three agricultural problems we are facing, improving the quality of life of the rural elderly has very important significance to reduce farmers’burdens, promote rural economic development, and build a harmonious society of "positive aging". It also can facilitate the better, faster and more robust development of China’s economy. So we need to call on the health sectors to strengthen health education of the rural elderly, and to take effective and feasible measures to improve their quality of life.
