Objective To know the quality of life level among rural elders of Anhui Province, and to explore the related factors of those quality of life, in order to provide evidence for formulating related policies and measures to improve the rural elderly quality of life.Methods This study selected one township in Dangtu County of Anhui Province as our research sites. The quality of life(QOL) was evaluated with the world health organization quality of life(WHOQOL-BREF), social support was evaluated with the social support rating scale(SSRS), anxiety was evaluated with self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) and depression was evaluated with Brink Geriatric depression scale(GDS-15). Data were entered using Epi Data.3.1software and analyzed using SPSS16.0.Results The age range of the 3182 participants was between 60 and 95 years. Of the participants, 58.5% were female, 76.7% were illiterate and 11.8% had primary education only. In addition, 71.1% of participants have a spouse, and 21.8% are living alone. QOL scores of the participants were lower than elders of Chizhou and Beijing. The difference was statistically significant. Among the participants, physiological area(PHYS) of male elderly is better than older women; the quality of life in all fields were decreased with increment of age and increased with culture degree rising; richers and more healthy elders were having higher QOL; QOL of living alone elders were lower than those who were not living alone; having higher social support elders were having better QOL; elders with depression and anxiety had lower QOL; pain and disability can lower quality of life of elders.Conclusions The rural elders in these townships maybe had lower quality of life; the related influencing factors of the rural elder quality of life were: gender, age,culture level, social support, depression, anxiety, self-rating of health and economy, pain, disability, and intensity of labor.
