School choice mainly occurs in the stage of compulsory education in China. Because of theimplementation of the nearby enrollment policy in"Compulsory Education Law",selecting school freely isnot allowed within the public schools. However, since1990s, school choice has been more and morepopular and has become a hot educational and social topic. For the sake of solving the problem,the authortakes America as research country.In the United States, school choice has a long history and the formationof a mature system of school choice. Through the comparative study of school choice between China andthe U.S.A.,the paper attempts to obtain some references, may get the inspiration and the help to the solutionour school choice.The paper is consisted of five parts as follows:Chapter one: Preface. It includes the reasons of choosing the topic, the definition of basic concepts,research summary, research significance, research ideas and methods, as well as innovation and difficulty.Chapter two: It introduces the history of school choice between China and America. In the UnitedStates, school choice experienced its embryonic period, the formation period and the period ofdevelopment, and formed a more perfect system of school choice. In our country, school choice has gonethrough three periods: embryonic period, the period of development and the outbreak period.Chapter three: It analyzes the form, the policies and the advantages and disadvantages about schoolchoice between two countries. The major forms of school choice in the United States: magnet schools,charter schools, home schools, education vouchers, education tax relief and private education company. Inour country, there are four forms of school choice: using fraction, using money, using right or relationshipand education vouchers. The policy of school choice in the United States introduces "No Child Left BehindAct", while in China the policy of school choice introduces the governance of arbitrary charges. And it alsointroduces effectiveness and problems of school choice between China and the United States.Chapter four: It includes a comparative analysis of the factors affecting school choice in China and theU.S.A. There are five factors: ideological and theoretical factor, political factor, economic factor, culturaltradition and educational factor and so on. Chapter five: Through learning American experience,the auther proposes some suggestions of schoolchoice from the macro, meso and micro aspects.
