College instructors have been the mainstay responsible for the students’ ideological and political development and the guides of their healthy development. With higher education in China turning from elite education to mass education, more and more importance is attached to college instructors and so is more stress. Two kinds of factors interactively contribute to the stress, namely objective factors, including their work nature, management and evaluation of colleges, social reasons, etc. and subjective factors such as personal reasons. Seen from the work nature, the complicated work content and special and pervasive work object cause the stress. Stress also comes from the colleges due to their imperfect evaluation system, incoordinate management mechanism. And the society increases the stress by imposing its high quality requirement, high expectation and reforms. Unfortunately, improper self-knowledge and unhealthy psychological quality of instructors themselves also tighten the screws. Bombarded with so much stress from various directions, they can hardly be optimistic about their physical and mental health. What’s more, with their own stress untreated, how can we expect them to do good to the students with mental trouble? Based on worldwide studies and Humanistic psychology and stress management, this paper takes the college instructors as its study object, analyzes their work stress systematically and puts forward systematic strategies on stress management to solve the specific problem, which hopefully can be take as means for colleges and instructors to reduce stress. This paper consists of five parts. The first part, the preface, is devoted to the status and importance of the instructors’ work, the stress they face, the research significance and the innovative points. The second part presents a literature review, defining stress and work stress and collecting studies related to instructors, which is supposed to be a reference. And the third part lays a theoretical foundation for the paper with general introductions to theories on Humanistic psychology and work stress management. It elaborates on the main theories of humanistic psychology, theories on work stress management and the relationship between the humanistic psychology’s health views and the stress. In the following part, the investigation and analysis of current situations of instructors of colleges and universities in Guangxi province is showed after an empirical research on the overall work stress of full-time instructors in colleges and universities of Guangxi province. It analyses systematically the formation of the stress and can be used as realistic bases. Finally the fifth part features the application of humanistic strategies to the work stress management of instructors. To put it more specifically, it tries to manage stress efficiently and solving the problems facing the instructors by employing humanistic strategies. This part is the very important and difficult part and also where the innovative points lie.Based on theories on Humanistic psychology and stress management and research and analysis of instructors’current situation in colleges and universities of Guangxi province, this paper analyses systematically the factors contributing to the stress of instructors and therefore puts forward practical and feasible strategies on pressure management from the perspective of Humanistic psychology. Hopefully it can make it conducive for the instructors to pinpointing properly work stress and for them to taking corresponding measures to assuage it and thus improve working enthusiasm and efficiency, promote the physical and mental health of instructors. In the mean time, it is helpful to update the management idea of China’s colleges from traditional to human-based perspective, which is considering person on the all round respects with fully resections and satisfaction of each individual. Thus the motivation of them will be spurred and the management of college students will be carried on functionally and smoothly. In this thesis, it is emphasized on a cooperative and combined pressure management of both colleges and college instructors so that the pressure could be converted as momentum in work to form a virtuous cycle which is practical and significant for the development of college instructors.
