| English is learnt as an important and essential curriculum in Chinese Basic Education, also is the emphasis of elementary education reform in our country. Primary stage is the initiation Period of the English education, and the crucial stage of cultivating talented person. Teaching material, which is the main carrier of the English curriculum implementation, plays the vital role in teaching. Images in the textbooks as a mean of visual representation play an important role in simulating students’interest of learning English, cultivating their positive attitude toward English learning and the aspect of establishing English learning self-confidence. Image representation as one of the characterization of the textbook provides a convenient, high-quality teaching resources for teachers and students. Therefore, increased attention has been paid to the design of visual representation of the English teaching materials by English textbooks editors; these images are also given enough attention by teachers who are supposed to use them in class. However, if the teacher wants to grasp these images correctly, apply image to teach flexibly, then, it is particularly important for us to analysis visual representation design of primary school English textbooks. Against this background and based on dual coding theory, Gestalt theory and graphic relation, this research regard the English teaching materials for primary schools which are issued by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press as the research object, and analysis visual representation design of primary school English textbooks, at the same, discuss the design strategies of visual representation for primary school English textbooks with quantitative statistic analysis, questionnaire investigation and interviews, and the various strategies for five application cases are give.This paper focuses on the "The Research of visual representation design for primary school English textbooks" five parts of this topic to start elaboration.The first part is introduction, mainly from the background, the definition of the concept, literature review, the significance of the study and innovation, research questions and methods five aspects.The second part is the theoretical basis, which mainly analysis three theories of dual coding theory, Gestalt theory and graphic relation, and elaborates the dual coding theory and its enlightenment for primary school English teaching, Gestalt theory and its enlightenment for visual effects of primary school English textbooks.The third part is visual representation design analysis of Wai Yan She primary English teaching materials, which were investigated mainly from two aspects of image representation application situation and use situation. The part of image representation application situation of primary school English textbooks mainly investigates textbook image features, functions and classification through quantitative analysis; the part of survey and analysis of textbooks image use situation understands the application situation of textbook image for teachers and students through the questionnaire and interview method.The fourth is the design strategies of visual representation for primary school English textbooks, which put forward vertical structure optimization and horizontal structure optimization feasibility strategy.The fifth part is summary and reflection, this section points out the advantages of this study and future needs of the less important issues. |
