The composition in college entrance examination has alwaysbeen the emphasis of Chinese teaching in senior middle schools,and many teachers and students consider it to be quite difficult.The current situation of composition teaching is far fromsatisfying because the class training is not quite systematic, letalone the extracurricular exercises. The score of the compositionaccounts for 40% of the Chinese exam in college entranceexamination, which indicates that there is fairly large room forstudents to improve their Chinese score. With the emergence of thetopic composition and later the elimination of the limits on writingstyle, the students had more chances to show their talents.As a result, argumentation became the most favorite writingstyle for students. The traditional three-paragraph pattern, however,restricted the development of argumentation, which laid thefoundation for the emergence of argumentative prose. Nowadaysthe argumentative prose has became popular gradually and the cultivation of the ability to write argumentative prose turned out tobe a quite difficult issue.The argumentative prose is written in prose style, with theultimate goal of arguing. In the grading of college entranceexamination papers, the argumentative prose is very favorable.On one hand, the topic can be easily related in the argumentation.On the other hand, the structure of prose is so flexible that a widerange of materials are available to be adopted. According tostatistics, about 46% outstanding and high-score compsosition isargumentative prose. Also, the argumentative prose has becamethe most popular style in college entrance examination, and thereis an inevitable tendency that the composition is becoming moreprose-like. Predictably, more and more excellent compositions forexams will be argumentative prose which is profound both inthoughts and literature.The quality of the language directly influences the charm of anessay. In recent years, the theoretical researches aboutargumentative prose are rather seldom, and researches about itslanguage are especially scarce. Most of the studies ofargumentative prose are confined to the structures and simplewriting methods. Moreover, the results of the researches are toosuperficial to solve the fundamental problems, and fail to provide practical, detailed and operable formulating strategies.Undoubtedly, it is fairly significant to probe into the language ofargumentative prose in college entrance examination.Based on the introduction of the theoretical knowledge ofargumentative prose, this paper analyzes the languagecharacteristics and some practical writing principles from theaspects of language deconstruction and specific trainingstrategies. Then a dynamic study is further conducted, in the hopeof contributing to the theories of argumentative prose language andwriting linguistics, and providing some reference for the majority ofstudents and teachers. To sum up, the present thesis is of profoundsignificance both theoretically and practically, with its deepexploration of the language in argumentative prose.
