This paper investigates the situation of the students’ classroom participation in Englishclassroom, and the relationship between the ways of the students’ classroom participation andEnglish efficiency. The problem of student’s classroom participation has aroused interests amongscholars both at home and abroad. They have carried out broad and thorough research, and haveleft much beneficial and precious experience and results for us, but there are still many questionsleft unresolved. Firstly, they didn’t have one unified conclusion about whether there wascorrelation between the ways of the students’ classroom participation and their grades. Secondly,they didn’t put forward specific strategies against the factors that influence the students’classroom participation. Considering this, I present the importance of the classroom participation,and propose research questions according to the background.This paper employs a case, in which51students take part in the survey. Below are tworeasons for choosing the study object. On the one hand, the proportional distribution of thehigh-level, middle-level and low-level students is appropriate, and it is easy to get correct results.On the other hand, it is easy to do the survey, for I am familiar with and get along well with thestudents and the head teacher of the class.In this paper three method are employed, namely questionnaire, interview and classroomobservation. In these ways, this paper investigates the situation of the students’ classroomparticipation in English classroom, and the relationship between the ways of the students’classroom participation and English efficiency. And the survey comes to the conclusions asfollows:Firstly, most of the students participate in the classroom passively. To be more specific,most of them participate in the classroom with passive ways, such as take notes, and listen toother students’ answer. After investigating, I found out some factors that influenced the students’classroom participation. Here is a list of them: the students’ English efficiency, their interest inEnglish, the teacher’s teaching method and the classroom atmosphere.Secondly, there are correlation between the ways of the students’ classroom participationand their grades. And some ways such as “answer together”,“answer after the teacher’s asking”,and “ask questions after class” have significant correlation with students’ grades. And some otherways, such as “answer actively”,“ask other students” also have influence on the students grades.Considering this, I think it is important to promote students’ participation in classroom witha variety of strategies. Firstly, attention is supposed to be paid to every student, and differentteaching methods are to be employed. Secondly, teachers should cultivate their sense ofparticipating and improve their learning ability. Thirdly, it is supposed to design the questions carefully to arise students’ interest in English. Fourthly, a harmonious relationship between andstudents is expected to be established. Finally, a harmonious and democratic studyingenvironment should be established.
