The Knowledge Of Fengshui And The Living Space Of Hakka In Guangxi Province

Today, in the continuous development of science and technology, Fengshui activities are still active in the society, particularly in the Hakka village. As a unique cultural phenomenon, Fengshui have had an important impact on people’s social life and productive activities.This study was started from the prespective of social anthropology, using the methods of field investigation and literature research, take Fengshui as a unique cultural phenomenon for sociological understanding. At first let me introduce the Manifestations of the Fengshui culture and living space in the Hakka village, and render the view of Fengshui of the Hakka mainly from three aspects such as the village Fengshui of communal life, the masion Fengshui, the Ying zhai Fengshui: the village fengshui of communal life is reflected on the overview of village Feng shui and sacred space, secular space of the village, the masion Feng shui is mainly reflected on the use of Fengshui in the building process, the Fengshui remedy after building as well as the Fengshui about indoor living space. The Ying zhai Fengshui is reflected on choosing a public cemetery and find another valuable land with a good geomantic omen on the twice funeral of Hakkas, and the emphasis on the worship to the grave of common and respective ancestor. Then analysis the reasons for the prevalence of Fengshui in the Hakka region. The reason is mainly in terms of three dimensions of the material, cultural, and psychological. The material reasons mainly due to the objective needs of the Hakka’s living environment and the interest demand about the Hakka’s pursuit of prosperous both in family and purse. The cultural reasons mainly due to the influence of traditional Chinese philosophy, the impact of Chinese cultural policies in transition and reconstruction, as well as limited scientific knowledge and rationality, The psychological reasons mainly due to the good fortune of psychological and herd mentality. Finally, we discuss the positive features and negative effects of fengshui. Positive function include psychological adjustment， positive implied, livable, architectural aesthetics, the function of social integration and social control functions. Negative functions include secular utilitarian, containing community instability and superstition and the composition of the negative witchcraft.Finally we can include that Fengshui is a cultural phenomenon. It belongs to another knowledge system，not in any scientific or other cultural value ranges. But if it be denounced as superstition or exalt it as scientific views are not revealing the essence of Fengshui. We should make Fengshui, a cultural phenomenon, become more rational, take its essence and leave the dregs. For some rational thought of the Fengshui we should excavate and promote, while abandon or control its irrational level of thing, and guide their development trends effectively.
