With the rapid development of science and technology,the scope of application ofmathematics has made an unprecedented expansion. There will be more wideapplication prospects in the mathematical modeling. Countries in the world have come torealize that it can effectively improve the ability of students in mathematical application ifstrengthen mathematical modeling in mathematics teaching. They try to carry outmathematical modeling teaching in middle school one after another. In April 2003,Chinese Ministry of Education introduced the higher middle school mathematicscurriculum standards officially. And it proposed the teaching of mathematical modeling inmiddle schools specifically for the first time. Then mathematical model teaching in middleschool crosses from the hidden curriculum to the dominant course.In recent years,mathematical modeling courses in China are carrying out. But manypeople feel that the teaching of mathematical modeling is just a slogan or just a strategy,there are still a number of issues in mathematical modeling teaching in practice. Nodoubt the introduction of the new curriculum stressed the need to expand themathematical modeling teaching in secondary schools once again.Through the analysis of the basic theory of constructivism,I found it has a strongtheoretical guidance to improve our current mathematical modeling teaching situation.Due to the mathematical modeling is also a process of construction,the paper chosefrom constructivism perspective on the mathematical modeling teaching in secondaryschools. I select literature research and case analysis on the study of mathematicalmodeling teaching in middle schools. I analysis the significance of mathematicalmodeling activity in the middle school and I found it is necessary to carry out appropriatemath modeling activity in middle schools. By analysis of the current teaching ofmathematical modeling in middle schools,I found there are a number of problems. Byanalyzing the relationship between constructivist learning theory and mathematicalmodeling,I try to discuss the applicability of the constructivist theory in mathematicalmodeling. In my mind,it is necessary to guide the teaching of mathematical modeling theby using constructivist theory. With the combination of mathematical modeling in middleschool curriculum characteristics and actual situation,I make a few suggestions. The last part of the article cited and analysis a case of application of constructivist theory to guidethe teaching of mathematical modeling,in order to provide a viable reference to betterapply constructivist theory to guide mathematical modeling teaching.
