The aging of the global population has become a more and more serious realisticproblem which is increasingly hard to be ignored. The thesis argues that since theUnited Nations World Assembly on Aging in1982, the United Nations has mademany important idea suggestions and many important policy initiatives to deal withthe challenge of the global aging. Even if these initiatives of global governance actionon the global aging proposed by the United Nations have no legal effects, themultilateral governance framework which is coordinated by the United Nations andincludes some international organizations in and out of the United Nations family, themember states of the United Nations, and many grassroots NGOs and corporations inthe world, has played a great and irreplaceable role in the governance of the globalaging.Considering the sovereign state system of today’s world, it’s necessary andpragmatic to emphasize the core role of the United States in the global governanceframework under the principle of multilateralism.
