Study On Global Idea Of A University

The idea of a university is the soul of a university, where the charm of a university lies and has a basic understanding of the nature, function and mission of the university, which determines the value pursuit and development direction of the university. The global idea of a university stands for a noble mission, the great spirit and universal purposes. With the globalization swept over the various aspects of the world today, the survival and development of the university can not live without the context of globalization. We can make "our fates we call the shots", which will depend on how we have the power of globalization to adapt the needs of development the country and the world to a great extent. Therefore, it is inevitable for the university to set up a global concept. Under the globalization driver, United Nations University has came into being, as the meaning of "global university" conveyed, based on its most unique global idea——the global (universal) purpose, to an all-embracing mental, temperament and mission, from trans-disciplinary and multidisciplinary of global vision, in order to resolve the pressing global problems of all humanity.This paper tends to study United Nations University as an individual case to shed light on the global idea in UNU for constructing higher education in China and the world through exploration on her history and analysis on the present status, which provides a distinctive paradigm and perspective for the development and reform of higher education in contemporary China and the world. Firstly, the study outlines the background of globalization, and discusses the global university in the era of globalization, through the comparison of between Yale University and United Nations University, we come to a conclusion that the global idea of the United Nations University is the most pure.
