The level of running universities is related to the teaching body. Building a highquality teacher team in universities is an important project, which is connected with thecollege construction and the development of higher education.However, problems still exist in this system in Chinese universities. For example,some people have prejudice over the faculty employment and appointment system;many universities do not comprehend the potential meaning of the system and fail toimply a scientific and reasonable one. So making the faculty employment andappointment perfect is the necessity of higher education in China.This thesis is focused on the teaching—researching universities in China, andbased on the studying of the history and actuality of the faculty employment andappointment system in university in the United States and China, the author analyzes thecharacteristics of both systems respectively. The thesis summarizes the successfulexperiences of American universities, and it also put forward some suggestions ofperfecting the faculty employment and appointment system in Chineseteaching—researching university.The thesis consists of four chapters, which are introduction, the historical evolutionof faculty employment and appointment in China, the current situation andcharacteristic of American university, and the notion and thinking of evolution offaculty employment and appointment.Firstly, the background and significance of research, literature and researchmethods are introduced.Secondly, author elaborates the historical developments of faculty employment andappointment from1986, and then analyzes the characteristic and current situation, findsthe root of employment problems.Thirdly, synthetically analyzes the historical evolution of American facultyemployment and appointment, summarizes the characteristic and construe situation, then concludes their successful and reasonable experiences and lessons can be drawn forour use.Finally, author states some measures of solving the problems in China teacheremployment according to the actual China situation and idiographic condition inuniversities, such as emphasizes academic position, builds perfect appointment andmanagement, flow mechanism, and fastens the reform of the faculty employment andappointment system in Chinese teaching—researching university.The evolution of faculty employment system is a systematically evolution,university can’t just reform the employment system, but also make the incentivemechanism perfect. Only do we like this, we can promote the reform indeed.
