The Jiangnan Area Studies

Jiang Nan Xing Shu of the Kuomintang(KMT) was established by Jiangsu Provincial Government during the War of Resistance against Japan, which is the only administration agency in the south of Jiangsu Province. After the outbreak of the war, Jiangsu Provincial Government had to move to the north city of Jiangsu Province. After that, Jiangsu Provincial Government couldn’t handle the affairs in south guerrilla area, so that Jiang Nan Xing Shu was set up to deal with them independently, and cooperate with the Kuomintang(KMT) Garrison and New Fourth Army to organize the activities against Japanese aggression behind the enemy lines, and establish and maintaining the guerrilla warfare base areas in south Jiangsu Province, which hit the enemy and puppets, shook the foundation of their reign, and made the contribution to the final victory of the War.The paper tries to research and analyze the establishment of Jiang Nan Xing Shu, activities against Japanese aggression that it had organized and participated in, and the role it played in the war, and makes an objective and just evaluation by enumerating many archival records. The paper includes the following:Introduction part introduces the reason of the selected topic, make a systematic study of the weakness in previous researches on the basis of reviewing the domestic and overseas research production.In the main body, the setting of Jiang Nan Xing Shu is introduced in first Paragraph. After Shanghai and Nanjing fell, the certain conditions for KMT to rebuild its political power was founded, because of the launching of the guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines and the growth of the military and political power in the south of Jiangsu Province. In second Paragraph, the establishment and character of Jiang Nan Xing Shu was stated systemly, and the complex relationships between it and provincial government, war zones, as an special local authority, was analysed. In third Paragraph, the focal point was the exposition of military and economic war that Jiang Nan Xing Shu arranged and participated in, the arrangement of its policy and measure, and the achievement and failure it had gotten. Aiming at the relationship between New Fourth Army and the KMT whose military force Jiang Nan Xing’Shu represented in South Jiangsu, it stated the process and the reason that made them from cooperation to confrontation in fourth paragraph. In Paragraph Five, the statement and evaluation of economic and cultural education construction that Jiang Nan Xing Shu had organized was made. At last, a objective and fair judgment was made, by comprehensively analyzing the activities Jiang Nan Xing Shu have taken in the areas above.
