Study On Chongking’s News Photography Language During China’s War Of Resistance Against Japan

In 1937, China’s war of resistance against Japan broke out, the national government moved to Chongking from Nanjing, and so did the industry, business, culture and education. Chongking, as the wartime capital and the provisional capital, had become a time of China’s political, economic, scientific, educational and cultural center. This was a very special historical existence on Chinese politics, and also some contending period of vigorous development on the cultura and art. Chinese cultural and artistic elite gathered in Chongking. They have played a huge role in promoting arts and culture development during the war, including the development of news photography.The artistic status of photography at the war time is much less important than other artistic disciplines. Photography mainly acted as a sort of political propaganda tool in addition to the basic recording functions, and few people care about its artistic value. Therefore, this study was intended begin from the time background of war era, based on the initial establishment of the provisional capital’s historical system of photography, the typical picture filterd out as a starting point, divided the photojournalism picture language of provisional capital into two aspects as objective reality and subjective control. The objective reality was mainly study on the themes and the value of subject matter as the war and livelihood photo. The subjective control section was divided into three aspects as the photographer, the photography constitute language and the photography equipment. Which the photographer mainly study on the different perspectives of Western and Chinese photographer’s different ideological and cultural background; the photography language analysis in tone, depth of field, composition, color, light, etc., the photography equipment areas analysis based on the development level, the limitations of the camera and film. The whole study were worked in order to explore the provisional capital’s local characteristics of the times, the artistic value, the thoughts and emotions and inspiration for modern photojournalism.
