Introduction To "a Madman" Hokusai

Ukiyo-e as the art of Japanese civilians,is a Decorative art for the practical purpose,which was popular in Edo age of Japan.Most of the subjects are about city life and landscape.The Ukiyo-e artist who named Katsushika Hokusai as the only japanese of "one hundred influential celebrities of the millennium",his artistic achievement is attract people’s attention.In his painting career which as long as70years,he had studied under a wide range of subjects, boldly absorbed traditional genre of japan,the painting style of china and the western techniques,all of this made him into a unique artist.This article including six chapters, which start with an overview of the Ukiyo-e development context, account to the themes and time periods to divide the artist’s painting career into several stages.Insert his classic works and analysis them to explore what does the essence of Hokusai’s art bring to us.By writing this article,strengthen the exchanges of art and culture between china and japan.
