Ukiyo-e has always been regarded as the representative of Japanese art, which is a kind of decorative art and arts and crafts combining multiple meanings such as practicality and artistry.Ukiyo-e was first prevalent in Japan during the edo period(1603-1867),with a variety of subjects, mainly depicting the daily lives of ordinary people and landscapes in the edo region. The ukiyo-e master Hokusai eventually became a synonym for ukiyo-e in Japan. As the only Japanese who was selected as one of the"one hundred celebrities who influenced the world during the millennium",the artistic works he created all his life deeply influenced the painters of later generations.Hokusai has been making art nonstop for about 70 of his nearly 90 years.Hokusai's works cover a wide range of subjects, styles and genres, and a large part of the inspiration is drawn from traditional Chinese elements.Hokusai by drawing from Japan to introduce all kinds of Chinese print bold and fiction, such as:traditional Chinese myth character, traditional customs and festivals, the famous poems and poets, flowers and birds, etc.,and make China's buddhist thought fusion in their work of art, created a Chinese characteristics offloat world draw pieces, after in Hokusai also successfully became the ancestor of Japanese manga. The reason why Japanese ukiyo-e prints, which benefit from Chinese prints, can occupy a decisive position in the world painting circle, while Chinese prints gradually disappear,is worth pondering and discussing. In this paper, the artistic career of Hokusai is divided into six sections according to time period and style, trying to interpret the styles of ukiyo-e paintings created in each period, the embodiment of traditional Chinese elements in his works, and to sort out and analyze the traditional Chinese artistic thoughts conveyed by his works. In this paper,I hope to understand how Hokusai has made a deeper innovation beyond traditional elements of China, thus influencing later painters and various art schools, and how to create derivative Japanese comics on the basis of ukiyo-e.At the same time,it also reflects on why the domestic print art has fallen to the end,and makes a modest contribution to the cultural and artistic integration and development of China and Japan.
