Popular music with affinity and strong sense of the times has attracted a large group of audience,as well as junior high school students. Junior high school students from different places have differentpreferences on popular music due to the different conditions such as location, cultural environment and personal charactor. As a front-line educator in music teaching, we need to know more about the popularmusic preferences of our school students. In this paper, we chose Shunde Ronggui Middle School in Guangdong Province as the research base, and used questionnaire survey, the sampling method, interviews and analysis method and other common social study methods to learn the condition of students’prefereceson popular music. Furthermore, I combined the results of previous studies, data from the survey and my teaching experience, to better understand the junior high school students’ preferences on popular music in Ronggui middle school,and to find out present problems and reasons lay behind. Then furtherprovide some suggests and solutions. I hope this article would provide some specific, practical guidancefor popular music teaching in Shunde Ronggui Middle School and also provide some specific suggestionsfor the national middle school pop music teaching. This thesis is divided into six parts:Introduction. It includes:reason of choosing this topic, significance, assumptions, definition of core concepts, the present condition of popular music education in middle school, the condition of popular music education in Shunde Ronggui Middle School and relative background, and the characteristicsand limitations of this study; This part highlights the significance, the main contain of the research andthe characteristics and limitations.Review. According to the assumptions, the review includes:the previous study of junior high school students’s preferences on pop music, the impact that pop music has made on junior high school students and the policies and measures about it. The research methods. First of all, I talked about the research methods I chose in this article, and then explained why and how to use these methods, and finally what the limitations of these approachs are and how to overcome these limitations.The survey results of the pop music preferences of junior high school students in Shunde Rong-gui Middle School includes:(1) condition of pop music preferences of junior high school students in Shunde Ronggui Middle School;(2) the impact that pop music has made on junior high school students in Shunde Ronggui Middle School;(3) the music education condition of junior high students in ShundeRonggui Middle School;(4) the music environment the junior high school studnets in in Shunde Rong-gui Middle School;(5) the measures school took to conduct the preferences on pop music of the juniorhigh school studnets in Shunde Ronggui Middle School.The present problems and reason of the preferences on pop music of the junior high school studnets in Shunde Ronggui middle school. According to the analysis of survey data, I found out the some main problems on this issue:(1) the students’knowledge of music is narrow and what they knowand contact is only pop music. And the possible reasons are the abudance of pop music in Guangdongprovince and the easy access of pop music through the internet.(2) poor knowledge about the pop music, junior high school students are learning about pop music only by their own, from their family and from social life. Schools don’t have a system in pop music teaching.Some suggestions in properly conducting the preferences in pop music of junior high school studnets in Ronggui Middle School.?I propose that we conduct from the following aspects:(1) to create a school musical atmosphere and strengthen the teaching of popular music.(2) to use a variety of methods in popular music teaching, and to set up the bridge between the popular music and serious music.(3) teachers must self-improve constantly, to develop the quality and specific skills in education, and update knowledge constantly...
