Japan has a long history of the Chinese language teaching. In Edo age, textbook written by individual scholar even appeared. That is Tang Tsay written by famous Japanese scholar Okajima Crown Hill. It is the first Chinese textbook in Japan, which play an important role in Chinese teaching in the history of Japan.The textbook contributes a lot in the study of Chinese teaching in Edo age. There are a lot of shining points we can study and reference in our research today. So it is worthy of being studied in more depth. The current studies about Tang Tsay mainly focus on the content arrangement, author introduction and version verification. The field of second language teaching is still not involved. This paper, based on the literature research, explores from the view of second language and makes a detailed analysis of the textbook.Bellowing is the main content. The first chapter is the introduction. Firstly, it discusses the object and principle of my study. Secondly, it summarizes the study status and my study methods. Finally, it puts forward three research purposes that are to provide a new achievement for Chinese teaching in the world history, some research materials for modern Chinese teaching as a foreign language and some references for the writing of Chinese textbook as a foreign language.The second chapter, the research about Tang Tsay, is the main content of the research. The first section discusses the background and the main purpose of Tang Tsa y writing. Chinese learning was popular in Edo age because of the economic development and political impetus. To meet the needs of his door disciples and Tang Tong, the writer compiled the textbook. Section second outlines the compiled system and main content of Tang Tsay. The finally section summed up the compiling principles and the main characteristics of it. This is the innovation. My study summarizes four principles of compiling textbook:scientific principle, practical principle, interesting principle and cultural principle. This paper also analyses the compilation characteristics of the textbook from the angle of language and content. From the angle of language, the compilation characteristics of the textbook show up in the following aspects: step-by-step guidelines from simple to complex, transcription contributing to memory, specialized vocabulary teaching, fixed phrases and language chucks teaching. From the content point of view, the characteristics of the textbook are showing strong practicality, strong interest and strong function.The third chapter, the enlightenment to the current Chinese textbook complied as a foreign language from Tang Tsay, is the innovation of my study. According to the compiling principles and the main characteristics of the textbook, this paper puts forward three points of view about Chinese textbook compiling as a foreign language as following:pay attention to topic and function combination, pay attention to the language teaching and culture teaching combination, pay attention to vocabulary teaching and morpheme teaching combination.The fourth chapter is the conclusion summarizing the achievement of my research and pointing out the defects in the article.
