The period of Qianlong and Jiajing in Qing dynasty sees the rises of Jinshi textual criticismand of Epigraphy at the same time. As well-known Aides and staff and Calligrapher duringthat era, Qian Yong plays a considerable role in the literary circle and Chinese Calligraphyby virtue of his unique style of inscription and painting. This thesis settles his bureaucraticcommunicative activities and social networking, and subsequently makes a brief analysisof his concept of Calligraphy and its theory by pointing out the source and character of hiscalligraphy style and theory, and his attitude of adopting the well balance of inscription andpainting with regard to both Han and Tang dynasties when facing ancient resources ofCalligraphy theory. At last, the phenomenon of reduced version of Qian Yong’s inscriptionand painting is probed into, combined with its various methods, forms and intents. It ispointed out that Qian Yong’s practice deviates severely from the classical Epigraphyconcept of inheriting original inscription despite its influence of spreading Epigraphy.
