Ontology is one of the most important issues in the History of Confucianism.Under the background of Modern China, it has always been involved in historical and cultural issues. Therefore, it is rather superficial for the new Confucianist scholars to analyze Ontology merely from philosophical perspective. In this paper, the author mainly focus on the Ontology theory proposed by a famous historian, Mr. Qian Mu. In this regard, the author intends to fill in the blank in the research of Qian Mu's philosophical theory among the academic circles, and to offer a new idea for the exploration of Ontology as well. The paper shall analyze the Ontology proposed by Mr. Qian from the following perspectives: it explains the significance of Qian Mu's Ontology via analysis of his academic identity and problem awareness. Second, it clarifies the origin of Qian Mu's Ontology through examination of his explanation of intellectual history. Third, it summarizes the several principles of Qian Mu's Ontology and their dimension of humanities and well-directedness of reality. Fourth, it expounds the feature and contributions of Qian Mu's Ontology via comparison of Xiong Shili's Ontology. It is possible to draw a conclusion that Mr. Qian Mu, as a historian, has created a new approach for the research of the Ontology as a philosophical issue, that authentic and specific person with certain historical and cultural background can be successfully introduced into the study of the Ontology. In this way, the theoretical value of Qian Ontology can be deepened, making it easier to apply the Ontology to numerous existing problems.
