The aim of the study is to assess the accuracy of the STOP questionnaire in thescreening of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) among Chinese subjects. This researchattempts to find a more suitable method of screening tool for OSA, and try to describethe demographic characteristics and the sleep characteristics of the outpatients of SleepMedicine Center, and the prevalence of OSA in this sleep medicine center. We mainly calculated the sensitivity and specificity to reflect the accuracy, throughthe comparison of the data obtained via Polysomnography (PSG) and STOPquestionnaire.400subjects were studied at the Sleep Medicine Center of West ChinaHospital. The sensitivity and specificity of the Berlin questionnaire also can becalculated to assess its accuracy, and we try to establish a linear equation between thepatients score of STOP and his or her AHI,All this were used to compare theadvantages of the STOP.We try to give a preliminary description of the patients of thissleep laboratory with their sleep and respiratory characteristic.Based on the diagnosis via PSG, sensitivity and specificity via STOP questionnairewere82.5%and72.4%, respectively.A linear equation between the score of STOP andAHI is:Y=12.87X+1.64(X is the total score of STOP questionnaire, y is the AHIindex);OSA prevalence rate in this center is75.5%, OSA prevalence of male is85.8%,OSA prevalence offemale is53.5%. All OSA patients in this center Characterized with a deep sleep lossand light sleep increase.STOP questionnaire appears to be a useful tool to screen OSA patients amongChinese subjects, with relatively high sensitivity and specificity. The STOP with itsconcise and easy-to-use can be used as a screening tool to assess OSA in a populationwith a highly suspected of having OSA.The STOP is more sensitive than commonlyused Berlin questionnaire. It is worthy of promotion.
