The Spirit of Epigraphy, a study of the ancient calligraphy, isconstantly referenced and brought up in articles, essays, papers bymany different people over different fields, however, the definition ofwhich has not yet been wildly accepted or recognized. The uncleardefinition causes misinterpretation when people reference to it. Thispaper introduces two major concepts: image symbols of a system andreferring to system to clear the ambiguous part of the Epigraphy spirit.Image symbols of a system is the current definition of the Epigraphy spiritby calligrapher and scholar, while referring to system is to illustrate therelationship between literal concept and epigraphy arts and the leadsto the discussion of what epigraphy spirit actually is.This paper usesCalligraphy figures from WuChangshuo; wildly know as therepresentative of Epigraphy spirit in China; Set as an example,expecting which leads to a reference for current and future calligraphyinheritance and innovation activities.
