Research And Appreciation Of Ye Zhishen's Epigraph Calligraphy

Ye Zhishen,the courtesy name was Zhongyin;was born in Hanyang,Hubei,known as a famous epigrapher,collector,calligrapher,and doctor in the Qing Dynasty.Ye Zhishen was the backbone of the collection of epigraphy in the Huguang area during the middle and late Qing Dynasty and was the youngest epigraph calligrapher among the calligraphers who took Weng fanggang as the center.His life experienced through Qian-Jia-Dao-Xian period,is one of the important scholars to communicate Qian-Jia and Daoqian period.The epigraphy of this period already developed into calligraphy from the textual research;and the calligraphy history appeared “Bei” and “Tie” two fileds.Ye Zhishen made fridends widely,and always making rubbing and inscription with the group of epigraphers from Huguang,Shangdong,and Beijing area.He was passionate about the ancient epigraphy culture and had a great collection of it.He inscribed,copied,and published a number of epigraphy inscriptions and books.Ye Zhishen's calligraphy works have spread to the world,however the research about his calligraphy of epigraphy is limited.In this article,the author tries to carry out a full study from the four aspects of Ye Zhishen's life,friends making,collection appreciation and calligraphy style.
