| Object:To observe the short-term and long-term curative effects of long-round needle therapy in treatment of nonspecific low back pain (NLBP).Methods:A total of60NLBP patients which were selected from China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Guang’anmen Hospital Acupuncture Department and Beijing Changping district Jianmingli outpatient department were involved in the study. All the cases met the diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria. The research was a prospective and cohort study. The patients from Guang’anmen Hospital were receiving the long-round needle therapy once a week while the control group’s patients from Jianmingli outpatient department were taking the massage treatment3times a week,20to30minutes each time. The whole course lasted3weeks. The efficacy evaluations were carried out before and after the3week’s therapy, also including the2month long-term outcomes. The evaluated targets consist of Visual Analogue Score (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI).Results:1. The primary outcomes:Comparing was taken when the course was completed and2month later, both groups’Visual Analogue Score had significant difference compared with their baseline (P<0.001). The comparisons between2groups showed no difference at the same time points. And compare the difference of VAS between baseline and21st day, the difference of VAS between baseline and the2month follow-up between the2groups, there were also no difference on it(P>0.05). The pain improvement rate of long-round needle group was (66.86±23.929)%at the time after treatment while follow-up’s improvement rate was (71.32±23.254)%. There was difference between the21st day and follow-up in long-round needle group (P<0.05). The pain improvement rate of control group after treatment was (64.56±22.268)%while the follow-up was69.19±22.980)%. Statistical results showed no difference between21st day and follow-up in control group (P>0.05). The pain improvement rate had no difference between the2groups at the2point of time separately (P>0.05). The results showed that both of the treatments could improve the pain syndrome of NLBP patients effectively. While the curative effect of long-round needle treatment was basically same as the massage therapy.2ã€The secondary outcomes: The2groups had significant differences of ODI score at the time of21st day and2month follow-up respectively (P<0.001). But the comparison between the2groups at same point of time showed no difference (P>0.05). Both groups’ODI individual scores had differences compared with their baseline (P<0.05), expect the sleep and walk score of the control group (P>0.05). Compared the ODI individual score separately between the2groups, the results showed no difference (P>0.05). The ODI improvements of both groups were obvious (P<0.05) and close to each other (P>0.05). The statistical results indicate that either long-round needle treatment or massage therapy could improve NLBP patients’ODI score effectively. The improvement degree between the two therapies are basically same.3ã€Safety evaluation:The long-round needle was a safe and reliable therapy for NLBP which had no side effects in this study. Conclusion:The long-round needle therapy has a profound theoretical foundation whose curative effect for NLBP was remarkable. It can improve NLBP patients’pain intensity and lumber vertebra functional activities significantly. What’s more, the therapy also has a satisfied long-term effect. At the same time, the long-round needle therapy has less treatment frequency and side effect, suitable for clinical application. |
