Purpose:This study applied the tonifying kidney and promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm on the patients who suffer from stroke without Cognitive Impairment, a way of traditional Chinese medicine intervention. We evaluated the therapeutic effect with the Mini Mental State Examination Scale (MMSE), the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and a self-text traditional Chinese medicine symptoms scale. In order to prove that the tonifying kidney and promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm is effective in preventing post-stroke dementia, and find a new way to prevent post-stroke dementia. Methods:We use a randomized controlled method. We selected the patients who came to Peking University People’s Hospital for treatments and met the inclusion criteria.34patients were allowed in and randomly divided into two groups, a treatment group and a control group. The treatment group was given the Fufang Congrong Yizhi Jiaonang for12weeks whi le the control group was given non-drug treatment. After12weeks, patients in two groups were evaluated. Results:There are34people in total. Average age is67.8±9.3years old. There are20males (58.8%) and14females (41.2%). They were randomly divided into two groups, a treatment group of17patients and a control group of17patients. The baselines of gender, age, educationage, dementia family history and past history were no significant difference (P≥0.05); The patients’ BMI index value was significantly different (P<0.05). The baseline of the MMSE and MoCA score of2groups was no significant difference (P≥0.05); The recalled capacity integral of MMSE between the two groups was significantly different (P<0.05); The rest sub-items integral of MMSE and MoCA between the2groups was no significant difference (P≥0.05). The HAMD17items’ score integral was no significant difference (P≥0.05). After12weeks, the MMSE and MoCA score of the2groups was no significant difference (P≥0.05); MMSE sub-items in the attention and computing power integral was significant difference (P<0.05); MoCA sub-items in the attention and computing power, ability to abstract integral was significant difference (P<0.05); The rest sub-items integral between the two groups was no significant difference (P≥0.05). There were no adverse drug reactions in the treatment of patients. The treatment group compared with the control group cognitive scale score is almost no significant difference, which may be related to the small sample. The study is not yet recognized the effect of the tonifying kidney and promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm on the prevention of cognitive impairment after stroke. But the MoCA score of the control group after12weeks reflected a downward trend in the treatment group, showing the tonifying kidney and promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm may be effective in the prevention of cognitive impairment after stroke. Conclusions:The study did not prove the exact effection of tonifying kidney and promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm on the prevention of the cognitive impairment after stroke. MoCA score of the control group after12weeks is on a downward trend compared to the treatment group, indicating that tonifying kidney and promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm treatment maybe have a certain effect on the prevention of the cognitive impairment after stroke.
