Ajuga nipponensis Makino is also called "Punctate Ardisia Root". It is a plant from Labiatae and the whole plant is used as a medicine. It has the effect of antipyretic detoxicate, cooling blood and eliminating stasis to activate blood circulation, antiinflammatory, subsiding swelling and analgesia. A total of18varieties in our country,12variants and5deformations. Mostly distributed in the south of qinling mountains, low hills, forests, valleys, and slopes of the shade, resources are very rich. In addition, Japan and South Korea also distribute this plant. In order to develop and utilize the rich resources of Ajuga nipponensis Makino we studied the chemical composition of it. Through the antimalarial screen, the antileishmanial screen, the antifungal and antibacterial screen to test each polarity section of the crude extracts from Ajuga nipponensis Makino. We have isolated and purified9compounds from the petroleum ether, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extract of Ajuga nipponensis Makino by solvent method and various chromatographic methods, such as silica gel column chromatography, preparative thin layer chromatography(PTLC). According to the physiochemical properties and the comparision with literature data, the structure of7compounds were identified. as palmitic acid(comp. Ⅰ),ajuforrestinA(comp. Ⅱ),acacetin(comp.Ⅳ),apigenin(comp Ⅴ),ajugamacrinB(comp.Ⅵ),β-ecdysone(comp.Ⅶ),8-O-acetylharpagide (comp.LX). Comp. Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ and Ⅵwere isolated from the genus for the first time.Otherwise, under the guide of activity screening we have choosed ajuforrestin A,(3-ecdysone and8-acetylharpagidewe to built their HPLC quantitative analysis method. This method is suitable for quality control of Ajuga nipponensis Makino.
