Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of compound Traditional Chinese Medicine with nourishing qi to stop bleeding for non-variceal upper gastrotestinal bleeding. Methods:Literatures from the full text of the CNKI database,WANFANG DATEBASE, full-text database of Chinese scientific and technical journals, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Core journals of T.C.M. regarding randomized controlled trials of compound T. C. M. with nourishing qi to stop bleeding for non-variceal upper gastrotestinal bleeding were reviewed. As all searches end in December2011.Related literatures were selected and analyzed according to different treatment strategies of the trials. The methodological quality of the trials was assessed by the Jadad scale and evaluation was performed with software RevMan5.1.Results:Eleven randomized controlled trials meting the inclusion criteria were selected and reviewed. All selected trials in Chinese. Three trials Jadad scale is3as well as quality scale are B. Three trials Jadad scale is2, five trials jadad scale is1as well as quality scale are all C. Most trials didn’t assess long-term effect. As compound T. C. M. with nourishing qi to stop bleeding group was compared with the control group, the meta analysis from eleven trials indicated that the odds risk (OR) for the total effective rate at the end of treatment was3.74, and95%confidence interval (CI) was [2.34,5.96]. The meta analysis from two trials indicated that the OR (improvement of the bleeding shock after twenty four hours) was0.33, and95%CI was [0.12,0.95]. The meta analysis from five trials indicated that the mean difference (MD)(reducing of the average peroid of hemostasis) was—1.31, and95%CI was[—1.53,—1.09]. For the reducing of the average peroid of OB(-),the meta analysis from three trials indicated the MD was—1.32, and95%CI was [—1.57,—1.07].The meta analysis from two trials indicated that the MD for the blood routine (improvement of the RBC) was0.21, and95%CI was [0.02,0.40] and the MD for the blood routine (improvement of the HB) was5.19, and95%CI was [4.44,5.94].Five trials reported adverse reaction, of which three trials referred to the adverse reaction. Two trials reported adverse reaction did not exist in the experiment group.Others did not mention adverse reaction. So there was no enough evidence to reveal adverse reaction of Traditional Chinese Medicine with nourishing qi to stop bleeding, and the safty need to be studied further. Conclusion:The compound Traditional Chinese Medicine with nourishing qi to stop bleeding for non-variceal upper gastrotestinal bleeding can improve the total effective rate at the end of treatment, the bleeding shock after twenty four hours, reduce the average peroid of hemostasis, the average peroid of OB(-). For the blood routine,it can improve RBC and HB.Because of the lack of the trials and heterogeneous of the trials, the reliability of the result is weaked. For its effects on the long-term prognosis of patients and the safty still need to be confirmed by more RCTs with high quality.
