| Acute Pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common acute abdominal diseases in clinical. It has been the clinical research focus for a long time because of its abrupt onset, rapid progress, more complications, and poor prognosis. It can be divided into mild type and severe type based on the clinical manifestations. The incidence rate of Severe Acute Pancreatitis (SAP) has declined in recent years, about10%to20%of the AP. The SAP can lead to SIRS (systemic inflammatory response syndrome) and MOF (multiple organ failure)in the early stage. The condition can be very critical and very difficult to treat. In clinical, we usually use combination therapy with both Chinese medicine and western medicine for those AP patients who don’t have the indications to receive an operation. It has a significant effect and the role of Chinese medicine in the treatment of acute pancreatitis is affirmed. Objective:To observe the efficacy of Dachengqitang decoction in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) in clinical practice and to explore its possible mechanism of action for a wider and better clinical use.Materials and Methods:53hospitalized patients with SAP were selected from the department of general surgery indongzhimenhospital affiliated to Beijing university of Chinese medicine from1997-2011.The patients were randomly divided into two groups. One was the observation group with28cases. The other was the control group with25cases. We used the materials of these patients to conduct a retrospective analysis. The two groups were given routine western medicine. The28patients of the observation group were given an extra inject ion of the Dachengqitang decoction through the stomach tube. Results:The combination therapy with routine western medicine treatment and extra injection of the Dachengqitang decoction helped to shorten the time significantly for the disappearance of clinical symptoms and signs, the gastrointestinal function recovery, the test results recovery and the hospital stay. The incidence of complications was also lowered. The two groups have notable differences for those indexes (P<0.05), but the total efficiency has no significant differences between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion:The early use of Dachengqitang decoction based on the conventional western treatment can quickly alleviate the clinical symptoms of SAP patients, making the condition got controlled rapidly, and reducing complications. It significantly shortens the course of disease and length of the hospital stay. It improves clinical outcomes, reflecting the advantage of Integrative medicine in treating SAP. |
