Beside, Singaporean like fried and spicy food and because of expensive medical treatments, they usually take medicines by themselves after common cold, which make the disease last longer, so spleen qi is easy to get weak. The syndromes of cough are long cough, short of breath, too much white phlegm, with poor appetite, constipation or diarrhea, weak, pale and fatter tongue with teeth marks, thin white coating, weak and thready pulse. It is cough and belongs to lung and spleen qi deficiency syndrome in TCM, and chronic cough in western medicine. This research combines the cough with the climate and food of Singapore, so it is significant in clinical value and social value.Objective:To observe clinical effect of "Reinforcing earth to strengthen metal" on the treatment of chronic cough with lung and spleen qi deficiency syndrome in SingaporeMethods:1. Divide72cases of chronic cough patients with lung and spleen qi deficiency syndrome in Singapore into36cases in treatment group and36cases in control group according to randomization. The treatment group is treated with PeiTuShengJin Decoction, while the control group is treated with ErChen Decoction. The treatment lasts15days and symptoms are recorded every5days. At last collect and analyze the datum.Results:At last,8cases are lost and4cases are excluded.60cases are rolled in the research with32in treatment group and28in control group.1. Effect on TCM Syndrome. In the treatment group,1cases were cured,28remarkably effective,3effective and0ineffective, with a cure-rate of100%, cure-remarkable-effectiveness rate90.6%. In the control group,1cases were cured,8remarkably effective,19effective and0ineffective, with a cure-rate of100%, cure-remarkable-effectiveness rate32.2%. Wi th Chi-square test, there are significant differences on effec between the two groups and the treatment group is more effective than control group.2. Effect on ma in symptoms. The cure-remarkable-effect iveness rates of cough and too much whi te phlegm are65.6%and81.3%respect ively in the treatment group while35.7%and57.1%in the control group. With Chi-square test, there are significant differences on effect between the two groups and the treatment group is more effective than control group.3. Effect on accompanied symptoms.3.1Effect on wind aversion, spontaneous sweeting, week and listlessness. The cure-remarkable-effectiveness rates of them are95%,73.7%,71.4%and71.4%respectively in the treatment group while43.5%,15.4%,34.8%and41.2%in the control group. With Chi-square test, there are significant differences on effect between the two groups and the treatment group is more effective than control group.3.1Effect on poor appetite, abdomen distention and constipation. The cure-remarkable-effectiveness rates of them are66.7%,46.7%, and60.0%respectively in the treatment group while61.5%,50.0%, and25.0%in the control group. With Chi-square test, there are no significant differences on effect between the two groups (P>0.05)Conclusion:Lung and spleen qi deficiency and phlegm in the zhong jiao is one of the important pathogenesis of chronic cough. The method of " Strengthen earth to reinforce metal" can effectively cured this kind of chronic cough in Singapore.
