The scattering dust monitor which is based on MIE’s theory, by the advantage of non-contact measuring, high accuracy, real-time system and high performance, medical environment and industrial environment. As people’s environmental awareness development and the introduction of national laws, the dust monitor will also gradually into people’s life.In this paper, first the harm of the dust particles and dust particles measurement method as well as the domestic and foreign development situation of the scattering dust monitor are introduced, and then detailed analysis of the light scattering dust instrument measuring principle and main performance parameters. According to these performance parameters, the improvement of laser illumination system, sampling flow system and scattered light collecting system are presented, finally the purpose of reducing background noise, improving SNR and enhancing system stability have been achieved.Then referencing the design experience of existed dust monitor and the design scheme of foreign advanced dust monitor, designing and realizing three parts of the dust monitor prototype of signal processing system, the amplified and integral circuit of analog signal, the hypogynous machine of data acquisition and transmission system, and the superior computer of man-machine interactive interface system, which describes in detail fire parts of man-machine interactive interface system:main interface, graph interface, data interface, runmode interface and setup interface.At last, in according to the performance parameters and national standards, measuring stability of the dust monitor prototype, and then comparing with DUSTTRAK II8530and SIDEPAK TM AM510by air, smoke and standard dust, get dispersion of the dust monitor prototype and the relative error between the standard dust monitor.
